Jim Hodges: Ceremony

Drummer and composer Dave King will present three distinct solo performances on December 14, accompanying Jim Hodges' exhibition Ceremony at Gladstone. Each performance—a solo drum set, a solo piano piece, and a solo electronic drum set—will take place in differing locations within the installation. Highlighting the evening, the solo drum set performance will feature a specially commissioned drum kit created by Jim Hodges Studios.
Dave King, musician
Dave King (b.1970, Minneapolis, Minnesota) is a drummer and composer, best known as a founding member of the internationally acclaimed jazz groups The Bad Plus and Happy Apple. He has also recorded and/or performed with other music luminaries, including Joshua Redman, Julian Lage, Jeff Beck, and Bill Frisell. King has also worked extensively with the world-renowned Mark Morris Dance Group as a composer and performer and has written music for three consecutive New York Fashion Week shows for iconic designer Isaac Mizrahi. He is also a visual artist and designer with a portfolio of more than 50 record art design packages under the moniker Gold Prisms Incorporated and has a photography and painting practice. King’s first photography book is forthcoming in 2025.
