This publications features an overview of Mapplethorpe's nudes, portraits, self-portraits, still lifes, and other works compiled by the celebrated critic Germano Celant. Since 1977, Germano Celant studied the life and work of Robert Mapplethorpe. This book illustrates the complete anthology of Celant's writings on Mapplethorpe: from the 1983 exhibition at Palazzo Fortuny, Venice, in collaboration with the artist himself, to posthumous writings published in exhibition catalogs by prominent institutions, including the Guggenheim Museum, and the Hermitage Museum. This publication pays tribute to Mapplethorpe's unique and iconic contribution to art history and photography.
