글래드스톤 갤러리, 세디 콜즈 본사, 리겐 프로젝트, 그리고 갤러리 막스 헤츨러가 매튜 바니의 4부 전시인 SECONDARY를 발표하게 되었습니다. 갤러리를 통해 연속적으로 펼쳐지는 각 전시는 작가의 몸과 형태변화, 물리적 가능성, 그리고 미국 정신 구조의 기본적인 폭력 역사에 대한 장기적 흥미를 추적합니다. 조각과 드로잉의 새로운 시리즈 외에, 바니는 SECONDARY 영화를 런던, 파리, 로스앤젤레스에서 처음 선보일 것입니다. 설치물을 통해 바니는 작품에 반복해서 등장해 온 소재를 재조명하면서, 물질 잠재력과 신화 창작을 엔트로피적 붕괴의 유령과 융합시킵니다.

매튜 바니, 피토그래피 바이 후리에타 세르반테스

매튜 바니는 1967년 샌프란시스코에서 태어나 뉴욕에서 생활하며 작업하고 있습니다. 그의 작품은 2024년 파리의 까르띠에 재단에서 개최된 'SECONDARY' 전시회부터 2019년 예일 대학교 미술관에서 처음 상영된 'REDOUBT', 중국 베이징의 UCCA 현대미술 센터로 이어지는 세계 각지에서 다수의 개인 전시회의 주제가 되었습니다. 그에게 대개의 기관 전시회에는 뉴욕 솔로몬 R. 구겐하임 미술관이 주최하고 쾰른의 루트비히 미술관, 파리의 도시 현대 미술 박물관으로 이어지는 'THE CREMASTER CYCLE'; 일본 카나자와 21세기 현대미술 박물관이 주최하고 서울 러움 삼성 미술관으로 이어지는 'DRAWING RESTRAINT'; 샌프란시스코 현대미술 박물관; 런던 서펜틴 갤러리; 빈 찐스할레; 독일 뮌헨 하우스 데르 쿤스트가 주최하고 타즈마니아의 오래된 신 식당 박물관, 그리고 로스앤젤레스의 현대미술 박물관으로 이어지는 'RIVER OF FUNDAMENT' 전시회가 포함되었습니다. 바니는 1993년 베니스 비엔날레에서 아페르토 상을 수상했으며; 1996년 휴고 보스상; 2007년 독일 고스라르의 카이저 링상; 2011년 샌프란시스코 국제 영화 제전의 시인성상을 수상한 바 있습니다.
